Mayur Patankar is a cinematographer whose journey to this work has been as diverse and captivating as the visual narratives he attempts to craft behind the lens. Seven years ago he made, at the time one of the scariest and unconventional decisions, moving across the world to attend the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles to pursue a Master’s in Cinematography. Mayur comes from a small rural town named Bramhapuri in India where being a filmmaker isn’t exactly a common career aspiration. That decision to this day is one of the best decisions he has ever made. In just these seven years he has had the privilege to learn new skills, perspectives, and to build a strong growing resume by wearing different hats in the industry as a cinematographer, gaffer, and electric. He has had the incredible opportunity to work with artists and companies such as: Disneyland, Netflix, Delonghi, Capital One, Nike, NFL, Snoop Dogg, Billie Eilish, Lindsey Sterling, Diljit Dosanjh, Apple, Travis Scott, Anthony Anderson, and Jake Gyllenhaal. These are a few examples of the ways he has immersed himself in the world of filmmaking, soaking up knowledge, mastering techniques, refining his unique artistic voice and working with renowned artists while building trust, vital relationships, and credibility in the industry.
Mayur also brings in the pride and creativity of his rural Indian roots, by being able to draw inspiration from the vibrant colors, rich textures, and cultural fabric of his homeland. He brings this important perspective to his cinematography, blending his upbringing, diverse professional and lived experiences, with the technical skills he’s learned over the years into each frame he composes. With a professional background that spans forensic science, sports photography, and now influences his cinematography, Mayur's journey is evidence to the power of following one's dream no matter how scary or unconventional, and doing the hard work of manifesting that vision into reality. Mayur invites audiences to embark on this professional and visual journey with him that transcends borders, cultures, and conventionality, all while weaving together a tapestry of images that speak to the universal language of art and storytelling.
